October 12, 2009: An historic night of American theater as 150 presenters in 50 states and 19 countries staged a simultaneous world premiere of THE LARAMIE PROJECT: TEN YEARS LATER, AN EPILOGUE on the 11th anniversary of the death of Matthew Shepherd.
Performers from Speak Theater Arts and the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles were joined on the Broad theater stage by an array of celebrity guest artists for the only music/theater collaboration of this work among the 150 venues.
Guest performers for the event included Bradley Whitford, Mary McDonnell, Charlotte Rae, Sharon Lawrence, Mary McCormack, Doug Spearman, and Dan Guerrero. They were joined by STA artists Greg Dolph, Angela Lieb, Tatiana Simonian, Scott Brick and Jimmy Nguyen. Randi Driscoll and her band provided live music. STA's Liesel Reinhart and Steve Seagle co-directed.
Proceeds from this performance at Santa Monica's Eli Broad Stage benefitted the Alive Music Project (AMP) high school outreach program of the GMCLA.
